Fuel Consumption

Think I get roughly high 20's 27-29 on long runs but low 20s when I use the right foot. Car is a bit modified though as it has a 3.4 RUF conversion = 295bhp so this may gobble a bit more juice!

Just wondering if anyone has any idea what the average fuel consmpution should be for an 83 SC? Mainly doing long journeys motorways, A/B roads.
Miles to litres or gallons.

Many thanks

Thanks for that I seem to be getting approx 21 mpg. Thinking of putting the car on a rolling road to see what it comes up with.

It might be worth having the engine tested for compression loss too. Do you know if it still has the original air pump? (The one that's there just to pump fresh air into the exhaust?

Mine did around 21-22MPG heavy footed or 28MPG on a good run on M roads or abroad. When the engine was overhauled generally average 25MPG. [:)]

Probably still got the original air pump. Only noticed the difference as this a new car to, on my old one (same year etc) I used to get aroud 29 mpg for the same journeys. Will get the compression tested. Thank for the feed back.

295bhp from a TUNED SC? This exceeds all factory figures I have seen for ex works racers using Kugelfisher injection. Admittedly you have 400 cc extra - but still- tell us more about that engine please as such an engine would be pretty intractable and would probably destroy the stock gearbox and driveshafts pretty quickly.

Ironically for a device that was supposed to help the car pass emmision standards, all the air pump does is pump air into the exhaust as it leaves the engine thereby robbing it of about 5hp in the process and thereby burning more fuel! Most folks seem to recommend getting it out pronto!

Just done me sums after last weeks trip. Commute (blast) to work, track day at Brands, fast cruise home, 800 miles all at 22.3 mpg. It's ok for me. Paul
