Fuel filler cap doesn't lock...?

Noticed, rather by accident, that my fuel filler cap doesn't lock when I centrally lock the car...

On examination, I can see a black rod, that comes from the l/h side (from the edge of the driver's door).

This recedes when I unlock the car, and extends about 3 inches on locking the car.

What I can't figure out is what it's supposed to be connecting to in order to lock the filler cap.

Is something missing or broken here?

I've examined PET and the electronic workshop manuals, but neither provides any good diagrams on the filler cap region.

Look at section 50-5 page 2 in the manual (front wing removal).

Is it making a different sound when closing up, i.e. sound from near the fuel flap? The plastics sometimes falls out. Happened to me and I told the OPC to look at it and they told me it happens all the time and it just falls inside the side of the fuel flap container. So as long as it has not fallen out you will find it there and it will simply push back in the slot.

Mine had the bit number 3 in the picture below fall out...

Yes, item 3 is missing and I cannot locate it anywhere.

I'll ring my OPC and order one up.

Thanks guys.

Guys,

the "guide rose" arrived today and I fitted it, but on receipt I released that all this does is fit inside the fuel filler recess and guides the rod in and out of the wing - it doesn't actually engage the filler cap and lock it.

I've called my local OPC and the guy in Parts reckons I need a 49p rubber bit, which he's going to have sent out to me.
This item doesn't appear on the diagram supplied in response to this thread, which is a shame.

Can't believe that I've actually got TWO bits missing...clumsy previous owner...or what?

Ho hum...I will get it locking eventually...
