Fuel Filler Drain

Hi,

I was cleaning behind my fuel filler cover last night and noticed that water was still sitting behind it after washing the outside of the car on Sunday.

There is a rubber bung with what appears to be a drain hole in it at the bottom of that area, so I guess mine is blocked.

The question is, does anybody know where the drain exits?

Thanks.

Edit: I've had a look on the PET diagrams but it isn't clear.

not sure where that exits but I know mine hasn't got a rubber bit in it. guessing it may link with the sunroof drain or something like that? if it ever stops raining i'll stick some water down mine and see where it comes out [:)]

just been out and stuck a glass of water down there. exits below the sill just infront of the rear wheel on the drivers side [:)]

no problem, when I did my sunroof drain pipes I used a bit of thickish electrical wire, thin enough to bend but thick enough to put a bit of pressure through. either that or maybe worth using an air line. used that for my washers and worked extremely well [:D]

Be careful with an arline. If it is well and truly blocked you may just blow the pipe off the metal spigot and it will be floating around inside your bodywork [&:]

Safest and easiest thing to use is a piece of nylon strimmer wire

i've used a length of welding/brazing filler rod. it's thin and flexible, but has stiffness so you can have a good poke at the blockage. also ideal for routing wires through holes in walls.

I think you better explain to the neighbours that our cars don't run on a glass of water........or they will all want one[:D]

Quick off the mark Mike that did make me laugh.......... I have a new neighbour wanting an older 911.
I am going to try and take him to the dark side with my 944 Turbo I shall see if I can convince him.

I tried to clean mine and the thing just disappeared into the wing cavity, never to be seen again !

Anyway, at least the water no longer collects in the filler neck !

Mine seems to be missing too. But does it mean that the water will gather in the rear wing and rust its way out?

I used the jet setting on my hose head rather than an air-line because I had one and it is less likely to blow the tube off. It works for the holes in a rubber spoiler as well.

If the pipe is off then I expect water will go into the wing and find its way out one of the multiple drain holes along the bottom. Pour some in and see where it appears. If it doesn't come out at all you really need to know that ASAP!

From memory the water should just end up in the well behind the rear wheel, still not ideal, but easy enough to clean and dry out.

Quick update: I ended up using strimmer line to unblock the drain hole and it worked a treat.

The odd thing though is that the water doesn't exit where I expected it to. It exits behind the rear wheel just by the side of the spare wheel well.

I suppose the fact it is exiting with no delay is the main thing, it was just unexpected!

Common problem, you do not want the water entring the sill area, it connects to the pipe that comes out of the well behind the OSR wheel it gets blocked on the u bend you can take it out to clear it.
