Fuel Filler Flap - Emergency Operation

I have notice on my 99(T) C2 Cabriolet, that it is missing the emergency operation release (996 201 493 00) for the fuel filler flap.

I guess this has been forgotten when it had some body work on that side (i.e. new wing).

Could any advise if it is easy to fit a replacement or is it only accessable with the wing off?

Regards

You should be able to get at it by removing the wheel arch liner and working from underneath. If you drop me an email I'll dig out the instructions and attach them to a reply when I get to my PC tomorrow.

Can somebody remind me - when filling the car with fuel does the ignition key have to be in before the fuel filler flap opens ?
I filled the car last week and took the key out of the ignition (but did not lock the car) and the flap would not open - I then replaced the key in the ignition and it made no difference ! I had to gently force it open in order to get fuel in - makes you feel a bit of a ??? when others are waiting in the line behind you !

Crikey Chris, is it really that rare that you fill up?

Actually sounds like a problem with the locking pin probably sticking, I'd suggest the application of some WD40 or silicon spray lube to the pin, the engagement is usually quite long so I doubt if the solenoid is stuck at full engagement as you managed to open it.

Just checked mine on the Cayman so there could be a difference, the pin isn't a tight fit and the emergency release mentioned in the original post on this thread is a loop with a 986 Pt No and is still the same on mine, it's in the front of the door opening by the top hinge so you can use that. I'd guess that your solenoid is stuck.

As Richard says you can check behind the arch liner or failing that a quick visit to the nearest indi or OPC.

Since writing the above, I've found out that the plastic sleeve on the security pin if lost allows the opening of the lid as you describe, so it seems as though the solenoid/actuator unit is probably not operating at all. Check for power to it and for if it able to work. then once fixed fit a new sleeve on the pin.
