Fuel Filler Flap Keeps Opening

A slightly irritating one rather than anything - my fuel filler flap has started springing open when I'm driving along. Checking it, it doesn't seem to be held firmly enough in place when I close it, and in fact I can just put a fingernail under the edge and flip it open with almost no pressure.

Does anyone know how to adjust the mechanism that keeps it in place, so I don't look completely absent minded as I drive down the road?!

Hi

I had a similar issue with mine a few years ago - used to drive me nuts when I went over a bump and it popped open!!

I seem to recall that I opened the filler cap and then applied gentle steady pressure using my hands to actually 'force' the filler bracket over slightly - I do not think on this occasion there was any/or sufficient adjustment to be made that would allow me to do otherwise. The gap around the filler cover is now equal all the way round - whereas before it had been sat slightly 'forward' in its alignment - it also sits flush with the wing.

Needless to say I have had no further issues with it popping open and it can only be released with the internal release catch.

I'm sure that other people have probably experienced this and will probably give you more advice.

Cheers

Thanks for the quick reply. Sounds like it's time to dig out the rubber camping mallet and finally get down to some real work on the car...!

John,
