Fuel Gauge not working!

Hi. first post on the forum and hopefully not the last, i would be glad if someone could give me some info on my current problem. I have a C2S been using the car around here and in Europe all year, decided to put the car inside out the way of the rain, mud and wildlife of NorthWales (part ex defender for 993 not such a good idea now in mid winter? Only joking, itching to get the 993 out on the road every day. ) The car has been stood still the best part of a month, i have been starting the car most weekends moving it in and out of the barn when not raining. The other night turned the key to the sound of click click click , the battery had given up panicking grabbed a charger put it on the battery for a couple of hours then gave the key a turn, great engine started first time . Checked over the car again well er a few days later and there it was a dead fuel gauge, no movement when the ignition turned on at all, previously there was just under half a tank of fuel. Has the charger sent a surge causing damage to the gauge or is it a problem at the sender , any information would be great.

All the best Andy...

Hi Andy - welcome - congrats on your purchase - see I kept the Defender (for trialling mainly) and the 993 - best of both worlds you see.[;)] The fuel tank sender once packed in on my 964 - turned out damp was getting to the contacts. Its worth while taking everything apart, cleaning and drying the connectors. By the way - it definitely has got fuel in it ??? I think it unlikely the charger has damaged this one item.

Thanks for the info Mark. 99% sure theres fuel in the tank, but the needle should move some amount anyway , will go out later and start checking the connections . Im not sure if the fuel gauge has a seperate fuse, there is one for all the instruments!! will keep you informed Andy..
