Gauge only goes down to 3/4 then sticks however the reserve light still comes on at approx the right time, any ideas anyone?
Thanks

I would guess the prime suspects first off would be either the gauge or the sender. I'm not sure if you can get to the sender easily on these cars. Of the two cars i've owned in the past where i've had to replace the fuel sender one could be done from the boot through an access panel in the boot floor, the other required dropping of the fuel tank - a real pain in the butt. I know the gauges in our cars are a bit dodgy - my voltmeter reads about 12v when a multimeter accross the battery terminals will read 14.5v so when i've got my lights on and other electrical things too my in-dash voltmeter can drop as low as 10v but I know in reality i've actually got at least 12.5v so it might be worth checking out your fuel gauge first as I imagine it is an easier job to accomplish. I'm not sure what voltage you would need to apply accross the terminals to achieve full scale deflection of the gauge though.

And don't, should the opportunity arise, try to hoover up the dried grunge from the inside of the tank with a vacuum cleaner, even if the tank has been allowed to dry out for some weeks. The resultant explosion WILL burn down your garage.

Nothing really to do with this as such, but was wondering when u put on ur ignition is the reserve light on the fuel guage supposed to light up to show its working?? My oil pressure and battery voltage warning lights do but not the fuel or temp ones. Thanks

Nope, the low fuel light doesn't have an ignition on function check, so you just have to pucker up and go for it to find out if t works (all of mine have done).
