There is a guide to cleaning it in the garage shop manual at http://www.clarks-garage.com, or failing that buy a new sender.
Slim, my 3/4 gauge improved over time after I started using Optimax, must be the cleaning chemicals in it. Try and keep your tank full for a while and see what happens.

Its soooo blomin annoying aint it, after puting 70l of fuel in the car you would think that it would atleast extend you the courtesy of reading full!!!!
I need to fix that it really pi55es me off....

.....and there is no worry about the fuel light coming on incorrectly, as that is controlled by the sender - not the needle position

If you're positive that the sender is ok then you can simply pull the needle off it's stalk and reposition it. Ther are tools available when you buy these kits to fit white dials etc.

Mine only reads completely full if I put the last bit of fuel in really slowly
Must give that a go. I don't recall having seen either of my 944's (previous or current) with the fuel guage above 3/4's full despite the filler pump clicking off at every fill up.
