When almost empty it take more than a few gallons to register the fuel level. Fill it at least half full and it should reset itself to the correct reading...

OK, I will give that a try, I cant really remember if it was actually that low though when I stopped using it last October. I'll try and see what happens. thanks, Martin

Martin, As Kish has said but if your car's been laid up over winter, did you disconnect the battery or was it on a conditioner? If disconnected, that may have had an impact on your problem if there wasn't much fuel in the tank (less than half-full?). Check that the appropriate fuses are OK, fill her up and go for a good run to fully charge the battery and see what happens. If you still have the problem after that, I'd contact your local PC/Indie for advice - you may need to get the gauge recalibrated. Jeff

My Cayman (56 reg,) fuel gauge has stopped working. It was fine last year and has been in the garage all winter but now it reads empty and the low fuel light is on. I put a few gallons of fuel in but it's still reading empty and the light remains on.

Any ideas?

Maybe the sender has failed or float has stuck?

Anyone seen this before?

Thanks,

Martin

I didn't disconnect it but it did go completely flat on its own (probably the alarm), I had to use a jump battery to get the bonnet open via the inside connection point and then accross the battery to get it running again. Once I'd run it for 10 miles or so to the MOT garage it seemed to be OK, fully charged when I got back home. I'll give it a good run but wasn't intending to tax it until 1st May now so it will be a week or so before I can find out the situation with the petrol guage. Martin

I filled it up with fuel and the guage started working, maybe the float had got stuck? Anyway it seems to be fine now, Thanks, Martin
