fuel injectors

My favorite money pit my 89 S2, is once again playing up, the engine started misfiring after I had completed a basic service. I initially thought it may have been as I didn't check the plug settings as they were preset. Turned out they were ok. Bought a new DME relay anyway still no difference so then checked the dizzy cap and rotor which were to be frank totally shot, so ordered some new ones from design 911. Whilst waiting for this my waterpump started making strange noises. So ended up sorning the car and having it in pieces as I waityed for the pump belt and rollers from the states. The car has been off the road for about 6weeks and I have now put the pump and new belts back on however it is now not running on cylinder 4. Having had the injectors out the no 4 injector is completely gunked up with the cap hanging off and one of the O rings slightly perished. Number 3 injector is not much better but 1& 2 injectors were ok. I have ordered a new fuel pump regulator from Sheffield OPC 13 quid can't believe how cheap some of the stuff is. However the injectors are £250 each so I have been thinking about having them reconditioned can anyone help with some suggestions. I have seen some second hand ones on flea bay but the trouble is you don't know how good they really are.[&:]

I sent my injectors off to this company. [link=http://www.injectorcleaning.co.uk/index.htm]http://www.injectorcleaning.co.uk/index.htm[/link] They came back as good as new... GREAT service , all for about £50 ish...

Ummm, if the symptoms started after the service, I'd be suspecting the work done while servicing it. Did you dislodge the injector plug / mangle the injector wiring harness while getting the plugs out, for instance? I am sort of thinking about how to clean injectors using an ultrasonic bath (thread on PH here: http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=66&t=75http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=66&t=757651&nmt=Ultrasonic cleaning of injectors - what solution? &mid=292697651&nmt=Ultrasonic cleaning of injectors - what solution? &mid=29269 ). If you are anywhere near to London and fancy playing around a little then I'd be more than happy to spend an afternoon thinking a bit more about the project ... Oli.

I refurnished my injectors with new caps and seals, from a bosch injector specialist, they could also clean for a reasonable charge but as I was planning on replacing them with some uprated items and had no issues with them I didn't bother. Tony PS olli there is a tech article here http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/944_fuel_injector_clean/944_fuel_injector_clean.htm

I did check all the connecters as I can be a bit hamfisted and they are ok, the power is getting through. I think I am gonna send them off for a clean and check at injectorcleaning. Oh well I have a new uncracked blue dash sat staring at me in my bedroom, I suppose I could start on changing that whilst I am waiting for them to come back . Its just as well I have stopped smoking as the S2 is a far more expensive habit than the ciggies.

Hi Dave, I sent you a PM, don't know if you got it. I have 4 good injectors removed from a running car if you need them, Alasdair
