fuel leak

when on track fuel comes out and stains wing and drivers door,would think through right hand bends,have replaced fuel cap last year but still does it,anyone else have this problem..or am i just carring too many G through corners[:D]
 
Sounds like you may need to replace the filler neck - Part No. 964.201.043.06 Ă‚ÂŁ98.70 + VAT Replaced mine back in April - so the price was right then, don't know if there have been any increases since. This part is an improved part from the original one and has a more secure joint to the body.
 
It did Phil, but there again, you don't get to give it the same enthusiasm when cornering on the roads in South East London.
 
Had exactly the same issue as 'rs phil' on track. Tried different fuel levels and new filler cap to no avail. New filler neck solved the problem. I think the angle a fuel pump sits in the neck whilst re-filling can cause it to become deformed over time esp if you lean on the pump whilst re-filling.
 
It's a 17 year old piece of plastic - you can't expect miracles. I find myself having to replace various little parts from time to time, just because they have deteriorated over their life.
 
i am used to replacing parts on old cars...its part of the experience...this is nice and easy to replace and cheap for a change,no miracles expected here[:D]
 
Phil, I had it also on mine and there was a description (on Rennlist I believe) of how to correct it. But I mentioned it to my local Specialist and it seems to have been cured ... Mine was shown by an evaporation stain running from the filler cap down the wing ...
 
Quick tip guys. Before starting the job, buy a big pair of circlip pliers, normal ones (including the ones with interchangable heads) just aren't big enough. It will make the job so much easier and quicker.
 
yea spotted that,heated my bent ones earlier and made them straight...poped it off and back on...still waiting for part
 
ok got filler,took only 10 mins to fit,when fitting new one lube up the rubber grommet before pushing through towards flap, i used some tyre gel,found the problem with the oe one,when you blow through either pipe it blows straight out at cap end,with the new one this doesnt happen it seals so fuel cant get out,but if you take your thumb off one pipe and blow it bypass through each pipe...this will defo sort the problem...hope this doesnt confuse[:)]
