Fuel Line replacement?

Has anyone had to replace the fuel line which runs between the two injector rails at the front of the engine? It is the fuel line highlighted in red in the attachment.

I've just noticed that the rubber hose feeding the nearside fuel rail looks slightly cracked and was wondering if this can be replaced by a novice like me or should I leave it to the professionals?

It is not leaking at the moment, but I have read that it is a pretty common fault for this fuel line (and the rear fuel line) to fail on all 3.2 Carreras after the rubber hoses become brittle, leading to engine fires.

I also believe that this is a pretty expensive fuel line...

Any help or tips would be appreciated.

I know nothing about this ...so this is purely an observation by me...

1. I believe that the fuel sytem is pressurised...whether this is so when the engine is cold I dont know...but a word of caution!

2. If this is not a urgent 'fix' get a copy of 911 & Porsche World, you could write in to the Q&A section, answers are by Porsche Indy JZ Machtech

If the pipes are looking cracked I would change them ASAP
Had the fuel rails off my car a few time its not a hard job but release the drain plug with a suitable container under it to catch the fuel in the lines and dont lose the ball thats in the pipe ( test port plug )
The system is pressurised about 2 bar, so there is residuel pressure in the lines all the time so leave for a few hours and be cerefull just crack the plug off to release it
All ways work on a cold engine if you are working on the fuel lines
Not sure of the price of the lines but you get 10% off at any the Porsche Centres
 
OK...I finally managed to remove the original fuel line and replaced it with the new modified fuel line. It was a bit of a struggle as I opted not to remove the intake manifold, but it eventually all went back together OK.

There were some pretty interesting posts on the Pelican forum , but I ended up following the excellent instructions detailed in this post :

I did consider getting the original lines repaired, but the couple of hose specialists I spoke to advised against this as the end fittings appeared to be unique to Porsche. Instead they told me to bite the bullet and buy the original parts.

Beware this main fuel line (part number 930.110.595.05) is REALLY expensive and is only available from the OPC! I paid £323 inc VAT from the OPC. This includes the 10% discount...

You can see the difference in the old and new modified line in the attached picture. Note the rubber hoses are now double crimped, and the slight bend in the T-piece to prevent the passenger side fuel hose from being bent at an angle.

While I was "in there", I also decided to replace the fuel line which runs from the fuel regulator to the fuel damper (part number 930.110.411.03). You can see it in the original diagram I posted. This is priced at a more reasonable £34 inc VAT, again from the OPC.

I highly recommend everyone to at least inspect these two fuel lines for cracks if they have no record of them being replaced in the past.
