Fuel Pump - Recall GENII

Hi

My OPC advised me of a recall for my GEN II 997 today for the fuel pump. It doesn't affect all apparently but mine came up as being required. I imagine they are the earlier ones, mine was acquired in Sept 2008. Worth a phone-call to your OPC if you have one.

Could it explain my very infrequent starting problems I wonder... ?? Maybe perhaps.

Great service today from OPC Reading, collection and delivery extremely efficient and courteous. Albeit, retrofitting the PSE seems to be quite a job. Even with Reading's top technician working on it, it was two days. As for the sound of the exhaust, a great improvement on the standard exhaust note.

Cheers

mine is a December 08 gen 2 c4s, a coupl of months back, and just before the north wales french trip, it died, the OPC diagnosed a broken fuel pump which Porsche discounted so I just paid 350 quid minus the porsche club GB discount 10% = £315 for repair

If it's a manufacturer recall then I think I could reasonably expect Porsche to pick up the bill

Hi,

Yeah its The High Pressure fuel pump, mine also went few months back, again only paid £350 for the repair , and have taken the Extended warranty out now while it was in, i think normally the cost about 1k to fix

Mine had no problem starting ever, then one morning it just kept cutting out! managed to get it started with a little bit of acceleration on start but it was showing reduced engine power, so flat bed and OPC it was

Mine is a 58 plate with 24k miles on it

It's probably well past the time for a recall as there have been several reports previously on here of HP pump failure.

They told me about the recall Tues, mine will be swapped out FOC as you'd expect. I would imagine anyone who has paid for a new pump would have a very strong claim to get a refund if it falls into the same batch. BTW Mine's a 58 plate with 17K on it.

John, this is exactly what's happened to mine but it's not failed. The symptom happens very infrequently and only started after my first service.

Phoned my OPC yesterday regarding fuel pump. After some checking was told my car is in the recall list. i suspect if I had not seen the post on the forum that I would not have known about the recall!!

Thanks Simon.

Car is now in OPC and I have asked them to check to see if any other recalls are required.

Mine died yesterday in traffic (twice!), luckily I managed to get it restarted twice and has now been recovered to Colchester. I strongly suspect HPFP failure too, and being a Sept '08 car I'm not entirely surprised. Great work from Porsche Assist though, car picked up and courtesy car sorted within 3 hours on a Saturday, very impressed.

It's a touch concerning that we are not always getting letters from Porsche for required recalls. I guess it's down to the efficiency of each OPC. There again, I have have a Clio 200 Cup for track and the Renault dealer told me a ball joint needs replacing under warranty (it's a known issue). It wasn't to me :)

My car goes in Aug for it's pump replacement, hopefully without complete failure in the meantime!

Cheers,
Simon

Got the car back and assume they did the work as it was cleaned (after a fashion). Would have thought they would have provided a statement that recall sorted etc .

I'll write a bit in the register column, hopefully then other owners(who bother to read it [:(]) will be aware of the situation.
