Fuel pump swap

Hi,
I have just had a genuine Porsche fuel pump fail on me after 15 months, new one is £700 plus, so I was looking for alternatives. On the Pelican parts website they have a Bosch (very cheap) and a Peirburg for about £300 but both look like they need a few minor mods. My car is a 1976 if that makes any difference.

Has anybody done this conversion, or have a Bosch/Peirburg instead of the genuine Porsche part?
 
It appears the two years is only applicable if you had it fitted at a Porsche centre, I had mine installed at a Porsche specialist Weissach in Cheshire, they only give a year irrespective of it being a genuine Porsche part. A tad frustrated.
