Fuel sender unit gasket part #?

Hi guys, I have the common petrol smells being cuked into the car when the windows are down. I understand its probably the gasket on the top fo the fuel sender unit.

Am I right in thinking this is accessed from the boot of my s2 cabriolet, or is it under the rear seats?
Anyone know the part number, mine is an '89 s2. My OPC did not have the scooby of either the fault or the part #(mind you the car is older than anyone who works there!)

cheers

It's under the floor. Try Exeter OPC on 01392 822800 if your local one is hopeless. You'll get a discount by saying you're from "the forum", too.

ok, I removed th rear carpet and there is a black plastic cover over a unit on top of the tank. But it has VDO markings on (suggesting a sender unit) but also a pick up and return fuel pipe. Is this a fuel pump of pick up unit too?

How do you remove it, there is what looks like a knurled surround around the outside of this whole sender unit, does this unscrew? Or does it pop off to reveal some screws /bolts underneath?

I can see now real evidence of this area leaking, there was no fuel in evidence in the "bowl" in the tank around this unit, but when I have a good close up sniff, there was a very faint smell of fuel?

Could there be anything else causing the fuelly smell, I read something about a carbon recirulation filter on tthe tank that you need to chisle the side of the car off to remove....?!?

Any help on removing / replacing the snder seal apprecaited as always, plus any other ideas, just in case it does not cure it!
