Fuel Smell

Hello
I get a fuel smell on cornering or accelerating in my CGT.
I have tried to track down a pattern but I cannot detect one, so full tank or half empty, hard or moderate cornering etc., I sometimes get a strong or light smell of fuel.
I have tried to spot leaks under the tank or in the engine compartment but none seen.
Can anyone suggest what to look for or a known problem area?

On a related note, whilst under the rear offside of the car I noticed the black rubber vent pipe from the fuel filler cap area goes straight to air. I would have thought in 81 it would have been returned to the tank as per the Haynes manual. Is it to air as the CGT was Europe only?
Thanks

Try the pipe between the filler cap and the tank. Also check that the beather is clear.

Good luck.

Geoff
