hi

my 944 has been sealed in a garage for around 2 weeks and today i when i opened the garage door there was a smell off fuel so i was wondering if there are any common places for fuel or fuel vapor to escape that i could look for it was not mega bad but it was definitely there and took some time to clear

not had the car long so i don't have any history just waiting for some decent warm weather so i can get the jobs done that will get her back on the road

cheers

if there is no sign on the floor I'd check the fuel pump and fuel filter above the rear off side wheel and then follow the fuel pipe along from there towards the front .Whilst you are there might as well check around the petrol tank .A leak should show up as the petrol will clean the area it drips onto

I'm curious about how you get on too - I sometimes have a fuel smell, but it tends to be if the tank is very full. I haven't noticed it for a few months now - I've not been able to afford to fill the thing up, but now we're back to 83p a litre, I'm anticipating the smell coming back!!

thats probably the trouble . I usually only put £30.00 worth in at a time as its my second car and gets little use. Years of that and I expect the top half of the tank could rust on the seams ? Could be worth checking underneath for leaks and check the filla pipe joint clamps

sorry i have not had a proper look yet with Christmas and the cold weather etc the car is stored elsewhere and i will have some work to do before it will be ready for the mot i did take a look underneath the car but could see nothing there is not a lot of fuel in the car the gauge reads zero i wonder if it was just fuel left in the exhaust if that's possible the car was stood for over a year before i bought it and would not start but i got it running again i let it run for a while and then popped it back in the garage. When i get a nice day of free time i will have a closer look and let you know cheers sy

Take a look at the fuel lines, where they pass in between the rear torsion bar housing tube and the body work, just in front of the nearside rear wheel. This area is a muck trap and is one of the places where the fuel tube corrodes, the weeping fuel can be a very small amount to start with and will take a careful inspection to locate if it is leaking there. I hope for you that it is not the fuel lines! Baz

ok ill give it a close inspection my last car was an alfa so im used to things not been strait forward
