Fuel smell?

Had a bit of a strange thing today, took the 911 out, I had her running in the garage for a few mins at cold start before opening and getting her out, so it smelt rich in the car, no problem I thought - it would go away when I got on the road and it did.

I don't know if it was my imagination, or my nose, but I could of sworn that every now and then I was getting wafts of fuel when I came to a standstill at traffic lights or when pulling up to traffic after moving, and a fresh-ish smell.

She didn't use much fuel at all, so that is fine - no leaks to speak of.

I put recycle air on and everything was fine in traffic with the air con, then when moving, but as I mentioned I am sure when pulling up or when I restarted her after I stopped for a coffee that I was getting a waft of fuel again.

I'm guessing there is a hose that vents to atmosphere through a canister at the front tank, and then of course the filler, but I got out and had a good look around and couldn't see or smell anything in those areas. One thing I did notice that when I put her in the garage the smell of Porsche seemed stronger in there than usual! Any ideas?

Cheers,

Steve,

My hunch would be that it's just the fumes absorbed into the cabin/pollen filters & may well take time to disappear in these damp conditions.... especially if you had garage door/s closed......

Was heater/air con running in that closed environment?

an air freshener or another application of liquid leather will hopefully restore it to former glory!!

Thanks, I hadn't actually considered that. I rarely have the aircon off so it was running the whole time.

I haven't had her out today as it is persistently coming down!

Recycle air seemed to make most of the smell vanish but I still got the odd waft I think hen pulling up or restarting.

Cheers,

Nope!

I like to make my life as complicated as possible then work backwards lol.

Thanks, I'll check that too :) Although I am hoping it will vanish next time I 'air' her :)

If the 'O' ring is OK, I'm sure I can find you a few complicated things to check out. Next would be the EVAP canister control valve......
