Fuelling Probs

Recently replaced the worn 3.0 turbo with a newer 3.3 turbo, the 3.3 came out of another car of mine and ran great. I have replaced all the bits needed for the transplant but I am now having a fuelling issue. The engine starts up first time but is a little groggy until warm, it also bellows black smoke until warm as well. I have taken for a test run but she bucks under boost, I can hear both fuel pumps running and am wondering if a fuel pump is dodgy. If I rev the car when standing she revs great.

Any thoughts would be greatfully received.

my 3.3 did that a couple of years ago, running too rich when cold , black smoke over 3500 revs till warm...local garage replaced warm up regulator for £219 + vat + fitting....though i could have fitted it myself .... my 924 turbo did it as well but i fixed that myself by replacing the coil that wasnt giving a good spark when the car was cold........

No such thing Nathan i'm afraid, you can't buy new ones either as Bosch have stopped making them, your only option now is to have it rebuilt, IIRC mine was around £400 for the rebuild alone. It would definately go to Brian Leask if it goes again

Jon,
I understand you can buy them somehow from Porsche. My garage quoted me £1400 plus vat in Jan. Lucky for me the fix was successful without the need for a new WUR. I have just bought one almost new (a right result) which is currently being 'Leasked' and will be kept ready for when the curent one plays up again...

Well done on getting your hands on one Mark, I can assure you that you can't buy new ones, your garage will have quoted you a list price, if they tried to order one they would then find out they simply are not available. There was a thread on Rennlist sometime ago about a chap that had managed to modify a WUR off an old VW beetle, I'm sure you can walk into many a scrap yard and find one of those.
BTW are you getting the solenoid too?

Brian offers a separate solenoid that is triggered by your RPM's and adds more fuel under boost, it's shouldn't be necessary with your power level, but i thought if you were planning on going further up the power ladder in the future it is something to think about. E-mail Brian and i'm sure he will explain all. BTW, i've only just noticed that there was a piston heads meet today, i've been sat around doing nothing all day we should have gone, ah well

Jon,
Brian has my new WUR and is doing 'his thang' to make it adjustable (don't know if this includes the solenoid- I'm sure he will advise me).
I couldn't make the PH meet today as I have fuel probs of my own, ie. a leak in my main fuel pipe. See the 965 forum on Rennlist.
When the car is back week after next, hope to see you sometime soon. I have included you on my email list, so keep checking them for events.
Cheers,
Mark
