Anyone have any experience of either Fulda or Nexen tyres ?
Good , bad , indifferent ????
Intended for the rear of a 944 turbo

I currently have Continentals but have used Kumho Ecsta in the past with very good results. There has been lots of praise on the forum for Toyo T1R and T1S on our cars.

Pirelli P6000 and Pirelli Asymetricos seem to be universally disliked

The Pirelli P6000 are original spec tyres on the Jaguar XJ6 and I have them on mine. They are praised on the Jag forum - why are they disliked? Maybe not suitable for something as sporty as a Porsche?!

I had the same pair on the front of my Turbo for over 50,000 miles so longevity is not the problem. Outright grip is another matter, I could easily trigger the ABS when braking hard and spirited cornering will get them squealing like little piggies in the dry.

Everything is a compromise and my current Kumhos have far more grip, but I doubt they will last as long [;)]

Paul's findings seem to be confirmed by others and, assuming grippy tyres wear faster than non grippy tyres, that would be a reasonable assessment of P6000.

I doubt any of us have had the opportunity to do true back to back testing on tyres so all conclusions are based on perception rather than hard facts. Tyres are expensive and not the sort of thing you want to get wrong.

Beaky has had Continentals almost full time and these seem to work very well but I'm can't say if they are better or worse than anything else (aside a set of Maxis I had on the back which were rubbish). Because tyres are expensive I tend to stick with what I know.

What has become evident to me recently is suspension makes a significant difference to grip so what may seem rubbish tyres may just be due to rubbish suspension.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could get a tyre supplier to give us half a dozen different sets of tyres for a track day so that a group of us could do a back to back comparison - perhaps we should do that. [8|]

Funny - it seems to vary by model.

Boxster owners universally hate Contis, but 944 and 996 owners love them.
The Assimetricos (with direczionale fronts) are fantastic on the Boxster - but no longer available.[&o]

I had Fuldas on my 944S, and they seemed fine. But that was 6 years ago and I don't know what may have changed since.

I had Pirelli P6000's on a Volvo 850T5 which used to eat it's front tyres for breakfast. Needless to say the P6000's lasted for ages. The downside was that they were as slippy as an oiled eel.

I had P-Zero Nero's on the 944, which were okay but not outstanding. They were replaced with Falken FK452's which are, IMHO, superior in all aspects to the P-Zero Neros, and are fab value for money.

I have just had a set of Continetal Sport Contact 3's fitted to the daily driver and they are fabulously grippy and progressive wet or dry, but are very soft indeed.

I agree that Falken FK452's are great value for money. If you want to spend a bit more I'd also recommend Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's - not had them on the Porsche but they are great on our daily drivers.

Thirded, better than the SO2`s that came of it, they get warm and go off on a track day though with full tread block pattern. It`ll be interesting to see how they fare when worn down [8D] I cant believe they are so cheap too [:)]
