Full service kit bought - but no sump washer

Picked up my order today from GSF - usual service stuff (Air, Oil and Fuel Filter, plugs) plus distributor cap, rotor arm and ignition leads (eek), and neglected to check / ask for a sump plug washer.[8|]

Can the existing washer be re-used? I thought I read somewhere that heating it returns it to its original state?

It's not that I don't want to spend the additional pence buying the washer, it's just a PITA to go and buy a single washer!

The only time I bought a service kit the washer was included. I doubt that heating the washer returns it to its original shape as it is plastically deformed when you tighten up the sump plug - that's how it seals and why you should really replace it every time. Having said that on previous cars i've re-used the washer with no probs so you might be OK.

I think the 944 washer is fine to re-use Phil - I've got an old washer on mine at the moment & it's fine. for various reasons I have had the sump plug on & off a couple of times recently & it's holding up without any leaks.

Thank you Guys, one less thing to worry about then. If it is not tipping it down tomorrow, I'll get cracking with my servicing.

Phil

Always reused mine on account that GSF never supplied a new one. Never had a problem.
