Absolutely, but it looks like there are more than enough people around who will buy aforementioned bovine poop, and at a hugely high price as well.

I'll stick to a bucket and sponge.

I guess the only consolation here is that it is only the super rich that he is fleecing. Damn! I wish I'd thought of doing that!

Special towels?? I bought bundles of microfibre cloths from asda for £2 per pack of six, they make great polishing cloths.
Extra powerful hair drier?? That would be a heat gun, £20, if not careful very good at stripping paint. Clay bars are hardly hi- tech these days.

And as for a re-spray costing £100k most of that will be labour but even at £100 per hour, that is 1000 working hours, 125 days. The mind boggles!!!
 
Gurcharn has been around for years and is one of the best in business and you will find him referenced all over the shop. As is typical with news stories they pick up on a figure and run with it. In reality like most detailers the average cost is a couple of hundred going up to the £7K mark if you would like to have the most rediculous products put on the car, but hey if you can afford £1 million on a car, what's a couple of K every now and then to keep it looking good.

You should see his gallery, the cars that man has worked on!

Just need a few psi to get it to 140C. Problem is it will turn to steam when released.[&:]

I heard recently about a detailing guy down south who strips down the cars and paints/polishes/waxes individual components before reassembly. Now that sounds worth the money.
 
There was a "dedicated person" on a thread a while ago who IIRC bought a brand new vauxhall and gave a detailed step by step description of work done to get it to level he wanted

Each to there own I suppose

Wonder how much they would charge to get the family shed back to a reasonable condition?

This is one Paul Dalton did recently, the chap who did Rob Prince's 997 as a feature that was written up in the Post. The pros point out that paint correction is a painstaking process, hence the 80 hours on the Phantom, at hourly rates no more than an opc charges mechanics, sorry technicians, out at. They also include materials (except high end waxes).
 
The paint on that phantom looks like it had been keyed with a scotch pad prior to a re-spray. I wonder if that is what heppened and then the owner decided to go the detailling route instead??

That process is very impressive, though being an abrasive and polishing process there are only so many times you can take paint of (in that case lacquer layer) before the car will need to be re-sprayed.
 
Yes it's all very well but as soon as you've driven a hundred miles or so the process is rendered virtually pointless. Still, if he can charge for Emporer's New Clothes then fair play to him.

wasnt this the same guy had a feature on fifth gear a few series back? used a digital micrometer to measure the paint thickness on a materati mc12... then washed it with a sponge. pro's use a lambswool washmit dontya know.

good luck if youre fleecing the rich, theyve got to dispose of all that cash somehow

Yes, the VXR thread was one of the funniest things I've seen on the internet for years.
I am worried about two things- that guy seems to be serious, and that VXR nutter could be driving on the same road as me one day- he lives in kent too! He seems to have a poor grip on reality....

Once the salesman had left i inspected the car then got my Paint aDepth Guage out and measured the paintwork on all panels to ensure that no accidental damage had been done and that no panels had been blowed over as i would have rejected the car instantly , i cant have that....The car was in good condition although i did spot a couple of blemishes and a bit of a sticker on the window which i queried but i knew it would come off so i left it..

I know that I milk this, but the same bell-end 'detailed' his vacuum cleaner - and wrote a multi-page thread about the experience.

Do you think that he has ever kissed a girl? [:D]

Tony you mean the article I wrote for AT, it is Kelly at KDS, no bull, fantastic work & much cheaper than this other clown. Oh & he DOES NOT travel all the work comes to him & he is still doing 7 day working weeks 0800-2100!
