Fume smell within cabin

Hi

I have just brought my first Porsche a 1990 964 C2.

All is well apart from an aroma of exhaust fumes when I have the heater on for more than a few minutes. The fumes are not too bad until you slow down, say for a roundabout, then they become very noticeable.

I presume that it is a problem with the heat exchangers. I cannot detect any blowing from the exhaust from outside the car, but if the hole is within the heat exchanger section, then would this be noticeable?

I take it that there is no way of determining which exchanger it maybe that is at fault?

Is there anything else that maybe causing this problem? It looks like a relatively easy job to change the exchangers myself.

Any help or advice much appreciated?

Regards

Ross

Could be the big orange pipes that connect the exchanger to the interior, when they get old they perish and become britlle, easy to check and could save you ££'s if that is the problem...

Yes, the big orange pipes (snap). Also, if it turns out to be the heat exchangers, please noe the coments on the topic.

Sincerely
