funny noise

for the past 2 days when the engine is cold (first 1 mile), i can hear a funny noise from the engine like a whizzing or spinning noise. it dissapears when i accelerate, or remove my foot from the accelerator, but when lighlty pressed it appears again. It almost sounds like two pieces of metal lighlty spinning against each other, once the engine is warm it does not reappear.

the car is a 987s and only 7 months old and 9k on the clock. I wondered if it could be the choke but it has never done this before - why now. would be grateful if anyone could advice me if this is normal or requires a trip to the opc.

Could it be this?

so i need a modified controlled piston fitted. is this correct as mine was made oct 2005 before routine fitting???

I would take it to the OPC if I were you. After all, what's a warranty for? It may be nothing serious, but best to report it early in case it becomes so.

car on back of truck to cardiff and courtesy car on the way. rac man reckons fan belt, im not so sure??? opc will let me know when arrives.

Rightly so James, remind him it's a Boxster not a VW Beetle. [&:]

Mind you if it had a fan belt as such you could forgive it making a noise when you consider where the engine is in relation to the radiators.

JCB..

I get a funny whining noise from the passenger seat above 6,000 rpm but only when my wife is in the car. Are these factors in any way related?

The 2100rpm 'rattle/buzz' only happens on trailling throttle with the coolant temp around 55'C. The OPC should be fully aware of this but might try to fob you off on the prenmise you don;t know about the recall

It depends how worn your fanbelt is! [8D]

You can't call her that!

yes - it was the modified release piston thingy. it has been changed and the car is on the way back to me. note - the wind deflector has also been changed under new recall as the seals are failing.

thanks for all your replies

he worse problem was the porsche assist car replacemnt - they use guy salmon prestige cars who guaranteed me a car by 5pm tuesday, this failed to arrive leaving me stranded in work after a taxi home they said a mazda rx8 would be waitng outside my house at 8am the next day enabling me to get to work - was it there was it fuck. i was in another taxi and 30 mins late for work losing £109 in patient charges (dentist) not forgetting the taxi charges. I am still awaitng a call from the manger and in the mean time driving a shitty 206 - although it makes me appreciate my car a lot more.
