Fuse E1

Good evening fella 996 owners.

Could I ask if anyone has had issues with Fuse E1 on their 996. Mine is a 99(T) Cabriolet Tiptronic

Long story shorterned. Car would not start, throught battery (volts good), then was it immobiliser (started fine the day before), had been suggested that the starter motor had failed (again started fine the day before). Having had a similiar problem once with my 306 Cabriolet I decided to check the fuses and sure enough fuse E1 (7.5Amp) had blown.

Replace, and car was fine.

When to start the car today (2 weeks after previous issue), and would not start. Surprise surprise, E1 had blown again.

So has anyone else had an issue with a fuse blown twice in two weeks?

Have I got a problem brewing?

Alarm Module is dry.

Having bought some more 7.5A fuses, I replaced the blown one and went to start the car and saw the fuse blow when I turned the ignition. Replaced that one and again saw it blow when I turned the ignition.

Out of curiosity I decied to unplug the Sat Nav computer in the boot, replaced the fuse and the car started.

So having checked this a few times, I have come to the conclusion my sat nav is blowning this fuse. Why it has started to do this now I don't know.

The sat nav is a VDO Dayton MS5100 with a TMC Module fitted. I have wiring to the battery, ignition, earth, speed indicator, light switch.

If there are any thoughts why the Sat Nav would overload that circuit I would like to here it.

What fuse rating do VDO use in their wiring, or what is the current draw of the unit in the specifications? You may be trying to hang too much load onto fuse E1. PCM systems have a separate fuse for the navigation drive.
