Fuse help please

Whilst using the passenger footwell accessory socket a few days ago to run an air compressor to top up a couple of tyres the pump stopped working.

It carried on working through the cigarette lighter but not the other accessory socket in the compartment behind the handbrake.

I thought it would be a simple case of fuse replacement. When I got to the fuse box by the drivers feet the little map I found there bears little resemblance to the fuse layout. So, I took every fuse out and inspected each one - none were blown! The sockets still don't work (except the lighter socket)

So, I'm confused! (bad pun!)

Can anyone with a Gen 1 997 point out by whatever means seems most appropriate which fuse it should be or point me in another direction if that seems more appropriate?

As you have discovered the compressor should only be used in the cigarette lighter socket, the one in the armrest compartment is for low power consumers only (detailed in owners manual). In fact the footwell and armrest sockets only have a combined power rating of 70W. The cigarette lighter socket is rated at 150W so presumably has a larger fuse too. Strangely Porsche say you shouldn't use the ciggy lighter socket for electrical accessories, only for the lighter and the compressor. Whether this is to improve the reliability of the socket (as i did blow this fuse once when plugging in the TomTom) or for some other electronic reason i couldn;t say but itas the one i use for my devices all the time.

From the owners manual..

Maximum power consumption: 150 W

A quick bit of physics suggest the ciggy light socket will be protected by a 15A fuse, whereas the others are probably 7.5A.

Thanks team, found and fixed (must get specs!)

Interestingly that also confirms I have the wrong fuse map - so i'll have to contact the OPC to sort it out (unless any of you care to reach for your scanner........[8|]????
