Future meetings at Reading OPC

Paul Judge

New member
Please note - I have been advised by Porsche Centre Reading that there will NOT be a meeting for May and June.

The next meeting at Reading OPC will be Saturday 21st July. Meetings will then be every three (3) months.

I will post details of the July meeting as soon as I receive them from Kevin.

Any particular reason for this Paul? I am sure I am not the only member to be disappointed by this news, even though it was mooted by another member recently.

That's a shame, but I guess it's hard for Kevin to organise something good for every month. Still, perhaps some other events could replace the dates in between?

[:(] this is yet again another big blow to the region ! looking on the bright side at least theres still every 3 months instead of none at all [;)] i hope everyone continues (that can make them ) to support it . very informative and helpful sessions please do go along - yet another good thing fab did set up for the region so thanks at least for that fab its appreciated - wherever you are now !! ??????

Jacko, please explain how this is a big blow to the region, when at the most conservative estimate there has been less than one hundred out of over eight hundred, ( I now have more accurate membership figures. ) members attending the venue. I agree it is quite a disappointment to those of us who attended, but from the attendance figures, it looks like most of the region's members aren't going to feel any major impact. I never have been able to understand why people should wish to be non-participating members, but if that's all they require from their membership then that is their right.
We will never know if the original concept was to trial it for a few months to see what the OPC got in return for their investment in time and resources, but I would put money on there being disappointment at the turn out. I'm sure the new R/O will find out if the absence of Fabien or a replacement, showed the region in a less than ideal light and if this was a contributory factor in the decision to go quarterly. Lets turn it on its head and make the suggestion that if one hundred and fifty had turned out each time, it might have made the OPC's decision more difficult.

message edited for truer regional membership figures

its a blow to the region as this is another event that has been organised for a monthly session lost and cut to three months ! what needs explaining here ? the principal here is like anything taken/cut is normally bad news ,therefore regardless if only one person turned out you have not got the option anymore to visit on a monthly basis . i dont think it really matters on the amount of turn out because judging by the amount that turn out at any given monthly meet its only a handfull in any case ! in a year i have seen no more than 18 cars turnout and that could be for a number of reasons ?? as for reading yes of course they would hope that by offering the region a visit its going to drum up trade for them but its give and take and i dont think it would matter to them how many members showed -the point is its good of them to offer the facility in the first place and good of fab to secure it for the region as i know not all porsche centres would bother at all . - just to add to this when members heard the news that this event had been secured all said it was a good event and most would try to attend ,however i guess being held on a saturday lots of people just cant make it so perhaps a sunday may have been better for most . if no one speaks no one knows ? and for the past 5months theres been no communication any way .

As you now realise, the lack of communication is about to change. I will agree that as a lost option it is a shame, great pity even, but I still disagree that it a big blow. By definition it can only be 66.66 % of a big blow (or a little over half) as we haven't lost the facility completely. Not having an R/O for four months, now that is a big blow. Happily that issue has now been resolved and we can put it to bed. As I have said, I will ask a few questions, on behalf of the region, so we can all at least understand the reason for the change. Come and have a pint Sunday.

Having had discussions with Dealer Principles before on this sort of topic I can understand them cutting back.

Typically they say "when we put on a club event we see the same old faces" (one of which I assume is mine! [;)])

This means they feel they are putting a series of events on for the same group of people. What they want of course is to have a larger group of varied owners. Now if we got 150 people a time then this might not be an issue, but when it is 15 or 20 it is a problem.
I'm sure they like to see the same old faces - but they want to see new ones along with them.

Once a month would be getting stale, not only for the OPC, but for the members, and number would surely drop off. Make it 3 monthly and people are more likely to make an effort to attend. If it is once a month then "there is always next month".

Look on it as a good thning - they have identified that it would be better to have fewer events, rather than cancelling them altogether.

Your signature implies that you are the new R19 R/O. Is that right?

I'll try to get to wherever it is on Sunday. May get caught having to work part of the day.

Regards

Bob

I hope that my signature officially communicates my acceptance of the role, as
the official announcement was made yesterday by Chris Clark in the "Where's Fab" thread on the third page. In fact as this is such an important event for the region I am going to make a new post.
