G pipe for 993

Is it possible to have the same bypass pipe fitted to the 993 as is fitted to the 964 without any complications?? Tks

Not really able to compare the the 993 exhaust with the 964 setup. But no, cat bypasses are easy enough though

Definitely - a cat bypass is an easy job to fit for any mechanic.

The main issue you would probably find would be the clamp bolts seizing due to the length of time fitted and extreme heating/cooling cycles from the exhaust system (the cat gets very hot indeed!). They will probably need to use heat to free them up - or failing that carefully cut through the clamp bolts and renew them when they fit the cat bypass.

Think it is highly unlikely that the 964 cat bypass would fit the 993 - you would need to purchase a 993 specific product loads of manufacturers do them - Dansk are pretty good from previous experience.

Depending a job that you could carry out at home if you had the right tools for the job - I have done two of these with only the back end jacked up off the floor.

Good luck - hope that helps.

Great many tks. Someone raised the point that a 993 model wouldnt pass an MOT with a G pipe due to noise regulations brought in at that point in the 90's. Any truth to that?

If the pipe is a replacement for the catalytic converter(s) then I'd have thought the problem would be that it wouldn't pass the emission regs in the MOT. Not sure they're overly concerned with noise. I think people just fit these pipes and then temporarily refit the cats for the MOT.

Regards
Anton

Anton is quite right - the issues regarding MOT's are not noise related but emissions driven - it is extremely unlikely that your car would pass its emissions test at MOT with a 100% cat bypass fitted.

I think the key here is to make sure you hang on to your catalytic converter once removed from the vehicle and have it refitted once a year at MOT time.
