G50/915 & clutch pressure

Hi folks,

I have owned a 1989 3.2. The G50 box had a much more modern feel than the '79 and '82 SC I have also driven, however the clutch was actually much stiffer.

The '82 car had a recent new clutch and was surprising soft. I had expected this to be the other way around.

I may be looking to buy an SC or early 3.2 at the moment and was wondering what was normal? Was there something wrong with my car?

Thanks!
Abid

I have an '89 too. My clutch is very heavy - i'm told it's because it could do with being replaced, although i'm not sure how this would make it heavy. If anyone knows the answer to this, i'd like to know too.

A properly functioning G50 clutch should not be heavy - you have a problem. I have a lightweight aluminium pressure plate and a lightweight, but high clamp pressure, 930 Sport clutch in my G50 that are good for about 450hp and apart from the first 2 hours of driving and bedding in, they have proved to be light-ish and more than tolerable even in the stop start M25 world we have to live in. A std G50 set-up should not be described as "heavy". BTW, those who know me would probably describe me as on the slight side of average build, so its not just my massively overdeveloped left leg distorting my judgment [:D]

Whether its heavier than a 915 clutch? I think they are in my experience similar, though if I had to say which one is lighter I would venture the G50 hydraulic clutch by a very small margin.
