G50 Gearbox Query/North Herts independent Porsche servicing?

Hi there, having recently purchased a black 1989 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera I find that whenever I push the clutch all the way to the floor there is knocking noise and the pedal vibrated. I have been advised that there is a gearbox modification that cures this problem (something to do with modifying the grearbox forks?) but I would like to know a little more about the modification and the technical jargon so I can approach a porsche specialist without sounding like a complete amatuer. Does anyone know of a Independant Porsche specialist in the North Hertfordshire area they can recommend?

I had the same problem with my Carrera when I purchased it, but from memory it was clutch, flywheel and modification. Try JZ Machtech in Kings Langley, sure they'll be able to help.

Hi. I had my clutch replaced on my 87 3.2sometime ago and had mod done at sametime. It is the release fork spindle bearing that fails. The mod involves modififing gearbox to take new improved release arm and bearing. It was a standard Porsche upgrade which I thought was already done to later 3.2s. Any good independant would know as it was a common failing.

Cheers. DonC

Thanks for your help, I think I'll get the clutch replaced at the same time as I get the modification done. I too was under the impression that this should not be a problem on the later 3.2 Carreras, but obviously not mine!

Are you sure that you don't need to just limit the travel of the pedal with the small movable plate on the floor board like on the 915 cars ? On the 915 you measure how much movement you get and limit it. If you don't do this something (fork or bearing) rubs against the diaphragm spring and makes a noise.

I am not familiar with my G50 setup yet [:D]
