G50 Gearbox

Hi Pagey,

Anything can be done, but this is definitely not a straighforward swap! $$$$$$

You'd have to change all the gear linkages, shifter, pedal cluster etc...

If you've got a warn out 915 you'd be better off paying to have that re-built, they shift just as good (some say better) that a G50 box when fresh!

Good luck,

Tim.

I'll third that on cost but experimentation helps us all. Make sure the exchange box has a very good warranty.

You also need to cut out and weld in the G50 torsion bar tubes to make room for the physically larger G50.

Think cubic dollars.

How easy (or can you) retro fit a G50 Gearbox to a 1978 911SC?

cheers from Oz
Pagey

G50 can easily be put into reverse gear when selecting 1st [] Never had that problem with my
915's

get the box you have rebuilt, better then an exchange as it keeps it original and the box has a number on it.. i have seen in 911 & porsche world a company (i think may be in USA) selling a short g50box, not sure but i think its if you want to fit one in a 915 car as the torsion bube would not have to be messed with.

Having driven just that (i.e. a well sorted 915) not so long ago, I was very impressed with the ease of the 915. I'm in need of a new 1st to 2nd synchro - baulky when cold - under these conditions, I can often pass unfavourable comment whilst trying to rush the change.

You can't.

Good advice to re-build that 915.
