G50 into a 915 car?

Guest

I heard from an American geeza that the 5-speed G50 fitted to US-model 3.2's has a short bellhousing and therefore could possibly be retro-fitted to a 915-equipped car.

Anyone heard the same or even done it personally?

Cant help, although I had heard it is a tricky job. I guess the real question is why? I think a rebuilt 915 is pretty good, I know the G50s are rated more highly (I have one) but I dont honestly think they are that much better than a sorted 915.

Other opinions?

It is possible to shorten (at great cost) a G50 to replace a 915. The alternative is to fit a G50 torsion bar tube, again at great expense. There is an article on the use of a 915 with a 3.6here

Thanks chaps.

I've checked out the prices and the benefits and concluded to rebuild the 915 as and when needs must.

BTW - all this week - perfect 911 weather - I must've done over 100m a day, just driving with no destination.
