GAP

Hi All,

What are you thoughts on this:-

If you have insurance from Admiral Group whom generally openly admit to not insuring options and will give market rate on base car.

If you then buy GAP insurance which covers all factory fitted accessories then if a total loss or stolen then the GAP would cover that difference thus including the options fitted.

The issue would be on stuff damaged in a non-total loss accident such as an alloy wheel for example or the crested caps on the wheels and Bi-Xenon headlamps. But surely they wouldn't replace the Bi-Xenon headlamps with normal in an front-end accident so they must cover elements of the options in a repair. As I have declared all options but was advised in a total loss or stolen the money back would be for a base car but I would expect GAP to pick up the difference

Thoughts?

Thanks

Why not go for one of the specialist companies in PP in the first place?
Seems terribly complicated, and you have to deal with 2 unwilling insurance companies rather than the usual 1.

Also, why let companies like Admiral take your money when they openly(?) refuse to cover the total cost of the car?

Pure laziness in all honesty as I am already with them and I needed to sort it out quickly when I have some time to phone around I will and probably change it. Happy with GAP for the time being as security until I get the time to sort out phoning around as it is a faff getting quotes etc and I just don't get the time during the day but I will be using those in PP

I agree with what you say; however that is what I did and am still waiting for a call back from AON (3 weeks so far[&:]) at least in my experience Admiral are very efficient administratively, although (fortunately) haven't tested the claims side!!

When I had my prang in December 2000 I made one call to Norwich Union and the car was in the shop the next morning.

Never saw it whole for a further seven weeks but that was an OPC bodyshop!

They use Norwich Union, I found them most helpful and competative. 2 Track days are included too.

I will sort this out once I have the car the Admiral Group do have a great admin and when you make changes it's generally very easy. But I will move to a more "option" freindly insurer once I have some time.

Seeing as I used to work for Aon's Chairman - you want me to mention it when I see him next week? If you know who you spoke to I can really drop that individual in the doo doo!

<Evil cackling laugh commences>

And no, I wouldn't really be that nasty and never had anything to do with the boys who quote premiums but 3 weeks is a bit of a take isn't it!

How unimpressive!
