Garage recommendation in Kent

I have a 1977 SC that has been off the road for 5 years, and the time has come to get it running and back on the road.
Which garages in Kent would you recommend I approach / avoid to carry out a moderate refurb, not concourse, just running and sound for now?

Porsche indies are thin on the ground in Kent - Class Cars near Sandwich, La Rose in Kemsing and Project 9 in Marden are the only ones I know of. Porsche Tonbridge are not madly expensive for PCGB members and older cars. Into the next county I've heard good things recently about Precision Porsche in Crowborough and Octane in Uckfield, plus there is Nine Excellence near Gatwick (the owner bought my 968 coupe from me 5 years ago!). However, as you are talking about an SC I cannot comment about any of them as my knowledge and what I have heard is for cars with the engine at the proper end!!

A further thought Andy - come to the Kent monthly meet at Brands on this Wednesday evening and talk to Charles Marsland - he's AFAIK a retired Porsche workshop technician and still does work on some cars as a hobby. You might get a pleasant surprise, as he's of an age that he'd have worked on the cars in his working days!

Been using Project 9 in Marden for my 997.2 Turbo S recently, although they do all models and ages, and very impressed. I'd certainly recommend giving them a try Andy. Cliff knows his stuff and Natasha always helpful.

P9 made the national papers recently after a retired Maidstone Boxster owner took his car there for service, Cliff's 18 year old son wrote it off! I used them from the time he first opened up, but no longer do so. I can't go into detail on here, but I was not happy ater a major 4 figure service on my 968 August last year. At that time, his labour rate was not markedly lower than Porsche Tonbridge!

Well, this is all very helpful, thanks.
I can't make it to Brands this week, but I would interested in getting in touch with Charles. Do you think he would mind a direct contact?

The only way I can think of to contact him would be via the Kent RO's Pearl and Phil Sharland (R25@porscheclubgb.com), explain why you'd like to get in touch with Charles and ask them to forward your contact details to him. Failing that, our next monthly meet is October 5th (1st Wednesday that month, instead of the normal 2nd Wednesday), again at Brands. If I see Charles tomorrow (and remember!) I'll tell him.

They're just round the corner from P9 in Marden by the look of it - but no website or reviews found via Google!

Andy, Charles was not at the meet last Wednesday, Phil thinks he may have stopped doing major servicing work (clutches, gearboxes) but that playing with an SC might pique his interest, so I'd still suggest getting in touch with him via Pearl and Phil.

Mine is in with County Classics next week so will report back but Ian the owner sounds a nice guy with plenty of knowledge.
