garaged or not?

Hi there,

How many owners garage their car at night? I rent a lock-up for my all my junk (and motorbike) and I could get a 911 in there as well but its about 4 miles from my home.

How will a 3.2 take to being left outside rather than garged on a regular basis?

Thanks and all the best.

Martin.

to answer your first question, mine is used daily, and for reasons which aren't particularly relevant, it is not garaged at night in the summer but is generally garaged at night during the winter. But not always .................

Mine is garaged. I couldnt bear to leave it outside, but then I'll admit I'm a bit sad! Its also a condition of my insurance.

We have had a number of 911's including Cab's none of which get garaged, and are driven all year round... If you are not planning on using your car all year and only plan to do a few thousand miles then you would benefit from a garage purely from a classic insurance policy point of view, as they nearly all require a garage for cheap insurance and you would have the benefit of being able to leave the alarm turned off and the battery on charge..

What I would suggest is that if you do leave them out, then keep an eye on any water leaks as the seals on these cars are old, and do shrink... We have had to replace windscreen seals, rear window and door seals on cars in the past to make them water tight... not expensive but is a pain...

Mine has lived outside (under a carport) for 3 1/2 years.....

She now gets to live in the manner to which she was acustomed to and now resides in the garage, where she is a happy (not so little) Targa![;)]

I think a 3.2 is very well protected and will live outside with no problems. It's better to do that than use it regularly and put it away wet in a garage.

I now have a 993 Cab but when I had my 3.2 I bought a decent cover which helped keep the rain and cold out of the car. However, I ensures that I always washed the car before putting the cover on, to stop any scratch marks.

The only problem I found was that the 3.2 needed a few minutes to warm up in the winter and the DME would get a bit wet as it was a targa.

If I had a garage then I would use it no matter what car I had.

Or give your car a good dose of Zymol that will help the rain just roll off.
