I'm in a hurry so I haven't got time to post in detail. Try a search as I have posted this before.
You can set up the pedal perfectly for heel and toe.

That said, I'm now not sure I'd move the pedal from it's current position because I've got well used to heel & toe action on it (I used to think it was too low for this). I'm also concerned about raising it further because I have found that, under very hard braking, I sometimes catch the accellerator pedal with the side of my big feet!

Mark, my initial feeling is exaclty the same... I feel the pedal sits too low. When I try to heel - toe I find I incideltally push the break pedal too hard... Maybe I just do somehing wrong, so I would be interested to understand how you manage with the current setting

It is of course possible that someone has in the past adjusted either of our accelerator pedals - so possible they are not in same place.
I'm not sure I know what I'm doing but I was shown a method by John Cave (a fast road driving training course) basically as follows - sorry if this sounds like a lesson (but it was when John talked me though it!) - it was only verbal so I don't remember exactly what he said:
1) Try different shoes when a beginner (once you get used to it you can use just about any shoe - I've recently been heel&toeing around Spanish hairpins wearing sandals!)
2) Brake with your toe at the right hand side of the brake pedal (ie not completely square on it) - some of it off the right of the pedal.
3) Rock your foot to the right so that the right edge of your shoe touches the accelerator pedal (ie don't attempt to use heel yet - first it's more of a "side of shoe and toe" method.)
4) You only need to "blip" the throttle, not carefully sync the revs with the gear box - but you will find you get better over time
5) Find a piece of road where you need to do it loads - ie where you can keep accelerating and then braking for tight bends and changing down. Drive back and forth for ages. It's amazing how it suddenly comes right and seems so natural.
6) Then, once you have got used to the nature of the "blip", you will find you can do it with your heel (I think I still use the edge of my toe on the brake pedal) but I find myself just dabbing (quite hard) the part of the accelerator close to the floor with my heel. It's just that you get used to how much to dab it to bring the revs up enough to sync with the car speed.
Oh - the other thing I did (which I think made it a lot easier for me but obviously depends on your height) was I moved the driver's seat back the "extra inch" that is available - meant my legs were less bent so better able to move foot angle.
Good luck - it is well worth the effort - very satisfying feeling getting the car driving so smoothly.
