Gas struts for hood(bonnet} and engine cover

Hullo,
Does any one have any tips for replacing these dampers? I cannot see a simple way of locating the bottom fixing.
Thanks
Peter

I beleive these are easier to replace on the 993 than previous models or at least a 3.2.. as on a 993 the bottom fixing in the bonnet is like a ball and socket which just snaps together.. so you don't actually need to get you hands all the to the fixing.. Not sure about the engine lid, but I expect it to be similar

Think you will find a useful article on the Rennsport web site how to change them. They are not too difficult, just take care with the clips as they can easily ping off all around the engine bay. About 1/2hrs work to change all 4.

I've replaced the ones on the bonnet. There is an easy way to get the lower end engaged. Don't worry about removing the clip. Put a blob of grease on the end, line it up with the ball and force it on using a piece of wood or large screwdriver for leverage. it's a ten minute job to do both sides.

I haven't done the engine cover yet. Apparently it's a bit more difficult to access.

Adam,
Thanks, I have made a little progress but still haven't managed to get the bottam joint to snap off. I will persevere
Peter

Andy, Unfortunately Steve at Rennsport does not recollect such an article any other ideas? At the moment I am unable to free the bottom joint.
Thanks
Peter

Here is a link to the p-car web site DIY instructions - I have not done this job and, reading it, I have to admit it sounds a lot more difficult than others are describing above.[&:] Therefore maybe you are better not reading! - get more details from the experienced guys above!

Anyway - here it is http://p-car.com/diy/hoodshock/

A big thank you. Not that I have done it yet but this link gives me just that little fact that I was missing. So watch this space I will let you know how I get on!.
Kind Regards
Peter

Oh OK, you are still trying to get the old one off. Remove the sprung clip with a long thin screwdriver. The lower fixing will then just come away with a little gentle persuasion from a screwdriver or piece of wood.

Removal is explained in the Pcar.com article. However, ignore the P car stuff for refixing and use my infor a few posts before this.

Hullo,
Thanks to eveyone I have finally got there. The final hold up was due to my 993 (1996) having a slightly different securing method to the replacement and the ones described in some of the replies to this dialogue. The problem was Idid not recognise what I was looking for. Instead of a spring clip the strut was held in by a piece of sprung wire. See photo's. I got it out by getting a piece sharpened thin stiff wire into the protruding loop. If anyone wants more detail please let me know. i kow it's a truism but I found this dialogue very helpful
Regards
Peter
Ps I am not sure how to add the photo's to this mail so if they do not get in I will try again
