Gas struts - front and back lids

Don't use a length of timber. I did a number of years ago and then knocked it and it fell over denting the wing.

This act of stupidity prompted me to go for Porsche units many years ago and they are still working fine

 

Hi all

The gas struts for the front and back lids have failed - again.

Does anyone know of a third-party solution that works and stays working?

Looking on the Piston Heads site (I think) recently, a post mentioned 18 months. I collected my car today from AFN after its 12k service + extras, and the Service Advisor stated the same sort of time.

I must have had mine replaced at least 4 times in the 15 years I've owned her - which is better than 18 months but not good enough in my (ignorant) opinion. All lid-struts, I believe, were genuine Porsche - all maintenance work is done by OPC Reading, OPC Cardiff and WrighTune.

Another post on PH recommended Type911 - I've ordered these ...

Incidentally, the drive back from AFN this morning was a dream. She feels like new. I'll post details of the work done later.

Indeed, Clyde :ROFLMAO: - I nearly did that too but at the last second opted for a rolled-up rug jammed up against the hinge.
