Gear change difficult.

Hi

My gearchange has been getting progressively worse over the last two to three weeks. It feels notchy, as if the clutch is failing to disengage, through all gearchanges. However the clutch is still light and there is no slipping or judder upon engagement. The car had a new clutch (I am led to believe) at 18k and I would not doubt this claim as it has always been light and direct. Mileage now stands at 25k -with most of my driving in town, stop start.

Shall I assume that the clutch is on its way out ? Could it be the hydraulic cylinder needs bleeding ? There are no noises from the clutch on take up and the feel is smooth and progressive.

Any advice would me most welcome.

Hi first of all pull out the gater at the bottom of the gear lever it just pops out use somthing down the edge then use a grease on the gear linkage I use a white spray grease on the swivle points. just pop the gater back in, the cable is adjusable but try this first. Berny.

I had the same problems as you with the gearchange feels notchy.
I did two things:
1) As bernard tester said grease the gearchange next to the drivers seat, which helped.

2) But also I sprayed some oil on all the moving gear linkage parts (push rods, cable etc.) that pushes the levers on the gearbox. This is use behind the exhaust and hard to get to because the cat heat shield is in the way.

Doing this made a huge difference, as the grease just goes hard with the high temperature of the exhust been next to it.

Regards,
Chris.
