Gear knob - how do I take it off?

Well, the gear knob is a bit worn on one side, and sort of detracts from the look of the interior. How do I remove the gear knob? I folded down the gaiter to see what's what, but nothing obviously presented itself, and it won't come off by pulling. Help?

Paul

If you pull the gaitor up the is a metal clip at the bottom of the gear knob pull this out and the gearknob will pull straight off !!!

when you refit the gear knob and gater make sure the rubber sleeve under the gatier is back in place on the lever for a nice tight fit.

Again, my thanks to the forum. You guys are great for this sort of insider information.

Is it possible to reburbish the gear knob/gaiter or alternatively source the original type? Mine too is pretty worn but I don't really want to replace it with a non original aftermarket type.

Cheers,
Ian

Leather gaiters for the 944 are available on ebay. I got mine changed recently and it looks the part.
It was crusty/dry/cracked for a couple of years. It's amazing what you will put up with when you get used to it. Then someone will point out that it looks crap and 20 euro later I'm sorted.

I bought one of those wooden type gear knobs off ebay and found it didnt fit so after damaging it trying to fit it I then threw it away[].When I refitted the old one I wondered why I even bothered trying to replace it because the original looked better after all![:)]
I notice that even after emailing the company they still sell the non fitting knob[]

Personally I haven't seen a non original knob that I like on a 944. Keith Pink at Prestige Parts does really good quality replacement leather in OE grade cow. He sells on eBay as kpporsche.
