Gear Knob Insert

Does anyone know if the gear knob insert on a 944 is interchangeable (the one that shows the gear change pattern)? I've asked Porsche who say it is only available as a complete unit with the gear knob!!

My Silver Rose has a Gold One [:'(] but I want either a Burgundy one to match the gaiter and stick or even a Black one if anyone has one or knows where to get one.

Cheers

Hi Martin,

Here you go, and a little paint should see you right if you don't want a black one------

Seen that one but its for a 911? Layout is wrong for a 944

You could try PH Sportscars - 01332 799298

In the meantime, you could spray the gold one black and see how it turns out.....gotta be better now matter what!

Hi Martin,

That is just a generic photo, I think, I have the silver one worth a call maybe? Hope you get it sorted

The original insert is now only available as part of the whole gearstick and is 3 figures in cost, the first of those figures may even be a 2 IIRC.

Your best bet if you don't want an alloy one is to get one off a car being broken and paint it/paint the one that you already have, or paint a new alloy one. A left field choice would be an alloy one and get it anodised.

Thanks for the offer, black would be great, I presume it's aluminium but haven't removed it yet [:)]

I will PM you when I have taken it out

Mine was black plastic which made getting it out without damaging the plastic hard. The leather gaitor sleeves you can buy from ebay are quite a tight fit and then you have to get the plug back in without the creasing the leather. You can do it but its not a quick job.
