you answered it yourself [ORIGINAL: cococola
.If I hold the gear lever it goes away.
Any ideas please?
mine does exactly the same. No idea what causes it, although I did wonder whether the gearbox mount is a bit worn, allowing some movement. doesn't appear to be the case though.

My lever vibrates and also moves slightly from side to side, even when in gear ! I've had the rear linkage replaced with a new item a few weeks ago so hopefully changing the gear lever will resolve the issue.
Well I set about changing the gear lever on Saturday, was very easy to dismantle the existing one using the instructions from www.clarks-garage.com.
Here is the old one compared against the new one, the wear is obvious

After fitting the new one I found I had to adjust the linkage at the rear above the gearbox as my stick was leaning slightly to the right [
This was fairly easy after fumbling around trying to feel where the nut was that I need to loosen.
Back in the car and the gear change is transformed, before it was a bit of a clunk into 1st, 5th and reverse (I imagine because they are the most extreme angles). Now it slides smoothly into each, so much so that I have to double check it actually has gone into gear now in reverse ! [
No more crunching or two handed gear changes, excellent.
I should also mention I had the rear linkage replace with new Porsche item about a month ago.
