Gear Noise

Hello all

I have just replace my gearbox mounts and I now have a strange gear whine type noise when I go round a left hand bend.

The mounts don' t seem to have that much adjustment in them so I fairly sure I haven' t fitted them at funny angle.

Has anyone had this before and got any tips![&:]

I replaced mine the other day. Sounds like your ' box is making contact with the chassis somewhere when cornering stresses act upon it, thus amplifying the noise?

I think it is possible to assemble the rubber mounts upside down, which may result in the box being 1/2 inch out of position. Worth checking anyway I guess. If I remember correctly, when theyre mounted the rubber bulge at the back of the mount should be underneath.... will check mine over the weekend as its been a few weeks and me memory is hazy....

The best thing I ever did was to update my 912 gearbox mount to an early 911 mount.
Got one for 50 squid - second hand but the bolts are £ 17 each from AFN.

It' s well worth it - tight and very little movement. I think Gavin has also updated his.

I do have my 912 mount spare - with the rubber blocks if anyone wants it

Cheers for the info.

I' m putting the car on a ramp today to be able to have a good look at what is going on, I will check the location of the " bulge" .

The use of the 911 mounts was the original plan, but I could fine one before my rolling road session, so needs most I replaced the rubber.

Thanks again.

I have solved the problem with the mounts...........As the old mounts had totally had it, the gearbox was sitting lower than it should. So when I replace the mounts, the gearbox move upward bringing it v.close to a seat belt bolt that was sticking out into the tunnel. As the gearbox is not symmetrical (more stuff on the right than left), this resulting in the box touching one of the bolts when making a left hand turn.

So, cutting the bolt down solved the problem, shame I had taken the whole mount of before I noticed.

Thanks for all the advice.

Cheers
