Gear oil changing

I have attempted to replace my gear oil today only to find that the previous owner?? has rounded off the hexagon head on the filler plug.I have tried the 17mm tool which just turns round and then I tapped an oversized bolt with nuts on the other end into the head to get a tighter fit but it just pulls out.Is there another way to get this filler plug out or is there another way to fill the oil?[8|]
Fortunatly I idnt drain the oil out first[>:]
My car is a 944 2.5 1986 model
