Gear ratios

Hi

I am new to Porsche ownership and new to this forum - it is great to have joined.

I have recently purchased a pre-facelift 2002 986 Boxster S, cobalt blue.

I am a huge petrolhead and what turned into buying a Boxster to enjoy as it was, has turned into a comprehensive refresh which has just been completed by Litchfield.

Change all fluids and filters.

New oem dampers, springs, TREs, ball joints, wishbones/coffin arms.

Polybush (I am really pleased with how compliant it feels with absolutely no harshness at all, when combined with the new OEM bilsteins.

Geo.

BLM gear linkage.

Gravity manifold.

Hayward and Scott exhaust modification.

Rennline gear knob.

Momo 07 steering wheel - I did this before the other changes above and was amazed at how much it improved the steering feel with the thinner steering rim.

Remap.

Relatively recently prior to my ownership it also had an uprated IMS bearing, replacement RMS, discs and pads all round, Pilot Sport 4 fitted.

It drives wonderfully now.

If there is one area that I wish was different is the gear ratios. They just feel too long for me, even though I only plan to use the car on the road (I am fortunate enough to have a Caterham Superlight for the track). I know this is an observation frequently noted on newer Porsches and I was interested to find the same about the 6 speed gearbox in the 986S.

I am relatively unfamiliar about options for changing the gearing. My initial thoughts are perhaps 15% shorter gearing.

Ring and pinion/LSD/other - what are your experiences/suggestions?

Many thanks in advance, much appreciated.

Mark
