Gear shift bushes

I know a few of you guys have fitted new gear shift bushes so I could do with a little of you help.
I have removed the gear shift, rubber boot and main cuttle pin that is held in by the clip on each end, I now believe I have to remove the square shaped box section part that the gear lever goes through before slotting into the bush as this is in the way.
I have punched out the cuttle type pin by the hand brake end of this unit and am now looking at the other retaining pin at the front of this part, it appears to be held in by a large nut with a allen screw going through the middle of it, do I remove this or not as it appears absolutely solid, is it a normal or left hand thread ?.
I also received 2 black nylon bush type things that am not to sure where these go, any help with the above would be much appreciated, sorry if it sounds a little confuseing.

Cheers Barrie

Did you order a specific set of refurb parts for this?

I had some bits from Pelican Parts for redoing my shift:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911M/POR_911M_Tshift_pg1.htm#item0
A cup bush for the end of the gear shift rod, two black bushes that go in the shift
coupler under the panel between the rear seats, and a shift rod bushing for the tunnel.

You may want to read this if you haven't done so:

cheers,
Ian.

Hi Ian, thank's for that, I purchased the kit from type-911, it sound the same as the one that you have.
The 2 black bushes have a spiral effect lip on them if you get my drift so will check out the rear coupler to see where these go, the other question which I may when checking the web address you supplied find the answer for was how to remove that square bracket which sit's above the cup that the gear lever sit's in as I dont want to get brutal with it.
Cheers for the help

Remove the whole shifter assembly. I recently fitted a factory short shift kit to my 3.2 carrera. It's not too hard to do.

As a tip for when you reinstall and adjust the linkage in the rear, put the tranny in 5th gear and get the 5th/reverse lockout mechanism to work correctly. 1st to 4th will then also be correct.

Hi Nathan, could you tell me what are calling the whole system, I am stuck as said on this little square ish bracket above the nylon cup, or are you removing the whole alloy tower that it all sits in, god knows how this is acheived if the case, i would appreciate any help as am now waiting to build as much info as poss before I go and damage something, not a good idea!.
Just editing this post as have been on to the tech files and found the exploded view of what I am looking for, I can see that you need to remove the alloy block now but just one question the retaining bolts are under the carpet which appears to be factory fitted, what did you do Nathan to get at these bolts, or am I missing something.

Cheers for your help

Baz

Can you post some pics of what you are referring to? I don't recall having any problems.

Are you saying you are trying to do this without removing the carpet that the rubber gear lever gaiter fits into? If so then you need to remove this carpet before you can remove the shifter assy.

Hi Nathan, all's solved, I was being a luittle thick but have now sussed it, thanks for all the help.
