Gearbox Advice

Hello all,

Just bought a Boxster S, 05 plate 45000 miles, from Leicester Porsche eight weeks ago.

I have had the car out 5 times, done about 100 miles.

Tonight I'm enjoying my Xmas waiting on a tow truck in market harborough as the gear box linkage seems to have gone! Well the gear stick is light, wont go into any gear and car is stuck in 5th.

Question: would you expect the Leicester garage to fix free of charge ? Or I'm l likely to have a battle on my hands?

What's your thoughts?

Alasdair

hi I suspect it's not as bad as you think! The cables do pop off or adjustment slips on from time to time an easy fix! Good luck

Thanks for the reassurance, was starting to think the worse sitting here for 2.5 hours! Tow truck still not arrived.
Although the porsche assistance folk are very good.

If youve bought from OPC then its under warranty and the fix will be covered.
Indeed, even if there was no warranty i would expect any retailer to fix free of charge, 8 weeks and 100 miles is insignificant, I wouldnt worry about it, however, i would be really peed off with the rubbish recovery - 2 and a half hours and still no sign - they would be getting an earfull

Thanks Glyn, two recovery guys came out Xmas eve and couldn't fix the car so it's off to the OPC on the 27th on a flat bed! It's the gearbox cable that's snapped, apparently it's corroded!!

And an earful they will get :)

Hi Alasdair, sorry to hear about your new car woes especially at this time of year

I've used Porsche Leicester a fair bit I'm sure they'll look after you, the service manager and tech's are a great bunch.
