Quick History

Noticed small Oil Leak
Returned Vehicle to Portiacraft (purchased car from here still warranted)
They replaced Rocker Gaskets.
Still had Oil leak
Leak traced to gearbox
Gearbox removed-rebuilt-replaced (thank god under warranty)
Car in Tognola for Service (noticed Oil leak from main seal again!!!)

Booked back in Portiacraft again!!!

Previously been happy with the Portiacraft mechanics....

Could anything else be causing this repeated leak? That is obviosly on the proviso that the seal was fitted correctly in the first place.

Many thanks

Can't quite understand the sequence of events ...

Leak traced to gearbox and it was rebuilt ... what has this got to do with a main engine seal?

I am probably just being thick.

Ian.

To be honest not sure.......

Porticraft just told me they needed to send the gearbox away .... and was rebuilt as some seals had gone internally......forgive my lack of knowledge,,,,..

Its booked back in a week on Sat....thank god for warranties....

Not sure if I understand which oil seal you mean but there is an oil seal (costs £14) on the main shaft where it exits the engine to connect up to the clutch/ gear box. I mention this one because it is a favourite to leak. unfortunately it is behind the clutch so its engine out again. I am sure they would have attended to this when they dropped the gear box out, unless of course you did not replace the clutch.
Any help??
Peter

Yip.....had the clutch done whilst they where in there...would have been false econ not too....just wish they would sort it for once and all......its 94 mile round trip for me..and I must have been back 5 or 6 times........

Whooooooooooo.........it was just residual oil...heating up and burning off...apparently gear oil is a mare to shift once its been sprayed everywhere!!!!....

result ! I had that after my last service.........scared the life out of me !!

Yep, I had the same thing after my last service. The car would leave a drop or two on the ground. When I returned it to the garage they wiped the oil away and I have had nothing since.
