Gearbox mount

Hi all, went to put my gearbox back in today and thought I had better check the top rubber mount to make sure it was OK. I found that most of one side had pulled away from the metal backing. Phoned up my local OPC to ask about getting a new one and found out it was £130 including 10% discount! So, anyone got a good top rubber mount for an S2/Turbo box they want to sell???? It is the part that sits in the cross piece held in the 4 13mm headed bolts that bolts onto the top of the gearbox.

I've never welded rubber before? How do you do that? Also, the metal inner of the mount is aluminium as well. Alasdair

You can buy a solid mount, sorry I dont know the cost or if they make any differnce to how harsh the drive is! UPDATE Found one from SAR £89 on ebay here: [link=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Porsche-944-solid-gearbox-mount-Porsche-track-day-race_W0QQitemZ180408877324QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2a0135010c]http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Porsche-944-solid-gearbox-mount-Porsche-track-day-race_W0QQitemZ180408877324QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2a0135010c[/link]

I am sure I have seen them for less.

Anyone tried these before? I would have thought that with having the whole engine/torquetube/gearbox suspended from rubber mounts at one end with solid mounts at the other wouldn't be a particularly good idea. Alasdair

They certainly add harshness, but they also provide excellent location. Im afraid that cant tell you how to weld an original mount because I havent seen one: Ive only been told about them by a preparation firm. Id assumed that yours wasnt a road car too, sorry.

If its a road car them get a standard mount.. The solid ones DO create a lot more noise + harshness....Although they do locate the box better + stops the weight tranfser in fast bends, [craner curves [Donnington Park],springs to mind.][;)][:D][;)][:D] NOT recomended for general road use.. If your a FULL on track head then youl not be bothered about extra noise...[;)]

Thanks for the suggestions gents, will try Porschapart tomorrow and a couple of other people and get a standard rubber one. The one on my spare box was equally bad so worth checking if you are getting a clutch or gearbox replacement and probably easily overlooked as you have to unbolt it to get in to check it, Alasdair
