Gearbox oil cooler

I have a fairly major leak from where the oil cooler loop attaches to the side of the gearbox. [] Unfortunately it is not the o-ring, but the alloy pipe itself has worn and just won't seal anymore. I hadn't come across this issue before, but some googling indicates it is not uncommon.

The coolers are no longer available new and presumably buying used is a bit of a lottery and may not be any better than what I already have. Has anyone else on here had the same problem or know of a clever fix? My Indy does have a spare cooler and car is booked in next week to see if it is an improvement but an alternative backup plan would be nice just in case.

Yes I had the same problem I just fitted a thicker O ring I'm struggling to remember the size I think I used a 3mm thick one quite hard to fit but worked a treat There was a imperial option that's slightly thicker, did not work next size up was bang on Your local hydraulic supply will have one they give it me for free

The coolers are hens teeth. I smashed my own in half last year, sourced a replacement which itself began to leak then I could not get another used one for love nor money. Incidentally they were still available from OPC at around £500 last year but I didn't want to pay that much tbh. There are various kits on the internet, 9 products being one I think, that make the fittings to go into the gearbox from which you can then fab your own braided hose and oil cooler set up to suit. I was going to go down this road when eventually a leak free cooler turned up. I still have a leaky one I plan to get refurbished and a 12 row mocal on the shelf for the next time I start loosing gearbox fluid!! I would defo recommend snapping up the used one that's available even as a stop gap. Also speak to JMG, I'm sure they have a fix for the problem also. Cheers Stuart

Thank you both, food for thought. Supposed to be at Bedford on 2nd June so hoping for at least a temporary fix. The car is completely unusable in its current state - I filled up the gearbox oil yesterday and there is a steady drip coming out. Not sure how long it's been leaking but it took a lot of oil to fill it up, so lucky not to have destroyed the gearbox! Edit - thanks Tony. I will give JMG a call tomorrow and see what they say.
